Apr. 2nd, 2012 11:46 pmMaeve has an ability that allows her to influence minds in order to get her way. She also makes deals with those around her. Of course, the deals will be made on a player by player basis but the first matter will require permissions.
It should be noted that she's more drawn towards evil/chaotic/darker characters. They intrigue her far more.
Please answer the following questions for me, if you would:
1. Can she flirt with your character? (This tends to be how she interacts with the world in general if she wants something)
2. Is your character able to be influenced by external powers such as illusions?
3. If yes, can Maeve do this to your character?
4. Can she use your character to do her bidding?
5. Is there anything you would prefer her not to do to your character? Please note that as long as no deal has been made between the two characters, she cannot take any hostile action no matter what it is.
6. Anything else you want me to know.

[Background] Link
Maeve is first introduced in Summer Knight as the Lady of the Winter Court and the daughter of Queen Mab. When Harry decides to speak to the Ladies of the two Sidhe Courts, he goes to Winter first. There he encounters the party she is throwing before the war begins between Summer and Winter. She is already aware of him and has had him guided to her lair.
He asks her for information concerning the Summer Knight to which she offers a trade. His first born for the answer he seeks. To this he refuses. Her Knight interrupts the conversation and soon she is forced to detain him. Not being as strong as the Queen or the Mother, she must rest and Harry leaves.
She reappears later during the Summer/Winter war to aid Harry by using her troops to clear a path for him. Here she encounters her Knight who she has learned has been a part of a betrayal plot that could destroy everything if it succeeds. Naturally, she is displeased with this and at the end of the war is with Mab and Mother Winter when they take him away to be punished until he can be replaced.
When she returns several books later, she has been called upon to confirm the fact that her mother is currently going insane and that the state of Winter is currently unclear. That is the only help that she offers to Harry. But, it is also implied that she will still obey her mother. It is even implied that she may be aiding in the torturing of her Knight though this is left unclear.
The fact remains that any attacks done by her court do still involve her. And she does so enjoy it and looks forward to each of the battles.
[Personality] Maeve, like other Sidhe, is extremely manipulative. She likes deals that will make her come out on top. And she will do everything in her power to ensure that happens. Playing at the weak points of another or offering something as simple as food. Take from her and she expects that favor to be returned to her. More than that, it's a requirement. There is no way to take from her that does not require you to be in her debt after that. And she will always twist a deal around so that it favors her if someone is not careful.
As one of Winter, her personality leans more towards cold and cruelty. She is a sadist and is violent though she plays at being benevolent. For her, the plights and foolishness of mortals is sport. To her things tend to be just a cute little game and she likes to use her pretty looks to trick others. Though she cannot harm or kill someone outside her power, she can trick them into doing the harm to themselves. And, if you owe her something, you are immediately within the realm of her power.
When she doesn't get what she wants, all veils of playfulness and seduction drop. She is cold and calculating then. Of course, she'll try pouting first. And if she thinks she sees a weak point, she'll attempt her little games again to try getting her way. She's a stubborn one. After that, all bets are off and she will lose her temper. If she is able to touch you enough to hurt you at that time, she will. If not then she will use others who can touch you to commit the act.
Maeve is a violent Sidhe with a joy for sadistic pleasures. She will happily seduce you if it means getting what she wants and has no problem with washing you over with a glamour. All in all, she isn't kind and enjoys playing and punishing others a great deal. And she is better than those foolish mortal humans and she knows it. But that doesn’t mean they can’t be cute to play with. Especially if she can ‘help’ them.
Still, she shows concern for her realm. To see her mother slip into madness disturbs her. However, this could be seen as a weakness so she pretends to be an "evil kinktress" in order to hide it all away. It's her way of playing the game to gain the advantage. That said, if she feels it will aid her to reveal information like that then she will not hesitate to do so. It's best to beware of what rests under the surface of her playgirl attitude. She's not quite as sweet and cute as she might seem.
It is impossible to try to get her to change her ways. She loves what she does and has absolutely no intention of ever becoming any different. Her lack of a soul possibly leads to this. She out there to fill her own purposes and doesn't care about anyone else but herself. Of course, she is also a Queen of the Winter Court. This does mean that she will see to it that her realm keeps its power.
On the flip side, she is not willing to upset the balance between Winter and Summer. She is well aware of the fact that the worlds need this balance in order to survive. Thus she is clever enough to only take as much power as needed without taking more than that.
She's a dangerous being to cross and wears many layers to hide the fact. People should be wary of dealing with her but she is willing to glamour them into thinking she's perfectly harmless. Why not? It does get her what she wants in the end.
[Abilities] As one of the three Winter Queens, Maeve has the ability to control ice and water. With this, she can create freezing winds and ice, turn things (including people) into solid blocks of ice, and even summon things like glasses of water. However, she tends to make the temperature around her drop when she uses her stronger powers. (As Harry points out, that is a sign that she doesn't have firm control over her stronger abilities yet. Which is also why she doesn't often use them.) She can also lay bindings with her powers. Along with this, she can move between dimensions and can create her own dimension in another. (Of course this power would not be available to her at Somarium.)
On the flip side, she cannot personally end another's life. She can trick you but she cannot actually perform the deed herself. Specifically, she cannot kill anyone who isn't attached to the Courts through birthright or bargain. It is a limitation she has as a Queen of the Fae. That doesn't mean she can't trick them into killing themselves though. That's another matter entirely. And she doesn't have to help them if they are in danger.
Like all Sidhe, she is a master in the art of trickery. She has talents with glamour (this entices the senses of those she affects to desire her). With this, she gains control of the mind and the senses (a permissions post will be created for this.) She also can manipulate the mind to her will if a bargain is made to do things like make a man play his instrument to his full potential without stopping until he dies. (It's what he wanted, after all.) Bargains are made by signing a contract, typically in blood, or agreeing to it three times.
Other known abilities she has include swordsmanship and horseback riding. And, as previously described with the trickery section, manipulation. Also, cold iron burns her skin. When she moves she is unnaturally graceful and fluid. She can also summon lesser Winter or neutral Sidhe to her side if they happen to be around.
As a faerie, she is for the most part immortal. Very little can harm her aside from cold iron. Even then, it takes more to kill her. And, due to her immortality, she ages very slowly. She appears to be only in her early twenties but she is far older than that. This beauty is something she likes to use to help her get whatever she happens to desire at the time.
It is implied that she can do more with her powers but as of where she is being taken from nothing else has been revealed. Another known fact though is that she cannot tell a lie. That does not mean she will tell the truth but she absolutely cannot tell a lie. And, as a fae, she has no soul. None. One other thing is that technology tends to stop working in the presence of magic. She’s not bothered by this.
[Other important stuff] Maeve is a faerie and one the most powerful of her kind as well. She might not be able to harm those outside her control but she's not above tricking people into her debt to be allowed to cause them harm. No matter what mask she happens to wear though, it's important to note that she has no soul. She might be able to feel emotions but in the end she doesn't have a soul to go along with this and thus her morals are whatever she wishes them to be in the moment. In the end, she's in this entirely for her own purposes.

[She almost seems amused by the little survey that keeps popping up on her Dreamberry and has finally decided to indulge it.]
Such information always comes at a price, little Dreamberry. But, we can play this little game. My answers for an end to this repetition.
- Someone is trying to rob you! What do you do?
That would be a foolish thing to do. It is never wise to take what does not belong to you. Mothers teach this to little ones.
- If I offered to save your soul for a price, would you go with it and why?
[She tilts her head to the side.] I will allow this trade under the condition that you only get what you wish for after my soul has been saved.
- Would you consider yourself a hero or a villain? Why? Neither is an option as well, but still tell why.
Mmmm. Harry Dresden would call me one thing and my followers another. I do wonder which the people here would pick since I do not care for sides so long as one proves to be interesting.
- Murder. What is your opinion?
Such an ugly word for something so pretty.
- If you could destroy a city, how would you do it?
There is no need to destroy something when the people within are managing to do so on their own.
- Am I asking too many personal or strange questions?
Not just yet. Let us keep it that way to avoid something unpleasant.
- Will you make a contract with me?
Name your price, sweet one. Perhaps we can come to an arrangement.
[Third Person]
Weeks had flown by since her arrival in this place. Weeks and Maeve hadn't found a way to leave no matter the effort she put into it. A great power ruled this place and it prevented her from any kind of escape. It was so rare to find something stronger than herself and she actually found she was almost impressed by its ability to keep her here against her will. Still, she disliked the idea of there being no loophole to exploit and found herself sitting on a bin in the shade of a building with a glass of water in her hand.
She was a Queen of the Winter Court, the Lady of Winter. This wasn't the kind of treatment that she deserved. With her power, she deserved admiration and people worshipping around her. Having to struggle to find a way to escape was disgusting and infuriating. Even the around her was chilly from the irritation she was feeling at how she'd been made out to be so small.
Harry Dresden himself had known not to cross her. Numerous creatures of power understood it and would never dream of displeasing a faerie, let alone a queen of them. Apparently, those that ruled his place felt differently and she was left to watch the world around her until she could find that one little crack that would allow her to slip free.
Sipping at the cool liquid, she crunched the ice that she formed in her mouth while she watched the people around her move along the streets of Somni. For a dream world, it was all so very ordinary. Mortals flooded the place and interacted with each other as if this were the waking world instead. It was almost pathetic to see them giving in so readily to the sway of this place but she supposed that was the natural way of a mortal. Really, she saw no reason to bother to understand why they would function the way they did. If they longed for a fleeting existence then who was she to show them otherwise.
Though, that one young man showed a different potential altogether. Her eyes could tell that he was as mortal as many of the others around him and yet there was a certain darkness that surrounded him. Curious, she watched him from the shadows as he moved about, pushing past people without a care. Licking her lips, she smiled a little when she saw what he was after.
Nearby there was another young man who clearly seemed to be in the habit of showing his wealth for all the world to see. Perhaps in his world this was something he was used to but here it probably wasn't for the best. The police only tried to maintain order without rules to cut through chaos. As a whole, they were rather foolish and the Lady of Winter could tell that they really had no idea with a lack of law to back up their actions. Crossing her legs, she continued to watch the show that was choosing to play out before her as if she were a guest who had been invited to a grand production.
The dark one approached the wealthy one and shoved him into an alley. A dark smile curled his lips as he leaned in close. From where she sat, Maeve couldn't hear the words but that hardly mattered to her. She knew exactly what was happening just across the street where they thought no one could see. Her pretty one was giving out threats in order to ensure that the other would give over what belonged to him. And sure enough, the wealthy one started to comply, begging for mercy.
However, her pretty wasn't at all interested in the pointless twittering of someone who had lost. He hadn't even provided a decent challenge and soon he had everything that was precious. Pity. Was it just going to end there?
No wait...
Maeve's eyes lit up as she watched the one she was favoring throw punches that caused blood to flow from the other and cloth to tear. He showed no mercy and there was a terrible look in his eyes that pleased her greatly. Such darkness in a human was so delicious and she knew that she had to have him. Somehow she had to have him close just so she could keep an eye on him, see what he did with his life here in this world of dreams. Nightmares were always far more interesting than the sweet nothings that so many seemed to long for.
The wealthy man was dropped to the ground and he curled up in a ball. He was probably in so much pain currently, the poor dear. If he had been someone that she'd bothered with earlier then he might have had a deal made with her. If that had been the case then she would have offered him a way to end his suffering. Unfortunately for him, she had no interest in a pathetic fool who would decide that giving up was the best course of action possible.
One day, mortals would prove to be more interesting to her as a whole. Perhaps as something more than convenient toys to cure her boredom.
But wait. Just what was her dark one doing now? It seemed that he was dumping what he had taken onto the injured body of the other man. Was he not going to take these objects from him? No, that smile said that he'd only done all of this for the sheer pleasure of it. He hadn't cared about the trinkets when he'd only desired the sadistic wonder of causing another person pain.
He was perfect. Dark and beautiful and so very dangerous. He was just the kind of mortal that broke through the monotony of many to bring about something fresh and exciting. Specifically, he had just a slight touch of shadow to his heart that would be so beautiful in Winter.
Leaving the water behind, Maeve hopped down off of the bin and moved through the shadows to follow after the pretty young man. She wanted to know more about him, to see if she could collect him in some way. Unlike many, she would still allow him his freedom, of course. It would be such a shame to tie up this particular individual. There was just so much that he could do if she allowed him to roam free without any restraint.
"Come now, pretty one. Show me what you can do," she murmured under her breath, lips curling into a wicked little smile as she crossed the streets to go after him when he walked away from the injured man. Naturally, the man reached out for her and begged for aid but she ignored him completely. If he was so weak then he could find something better to do with his time. She didn't even spare him the smallest of glances. Insects weren't worth her notice and it would be better if this place would simply allow this individual to fade from existence.
The begging died eventually as they continued on into the day. Her pretty one was going to have a very exciting time.
Of that she was certain.
[Why do you want to play this character in Somarium?] Maeve is a character I have loved for awhile and I've missed playing her. It will be fun to have a character that loves chaos but is really rather neutral about things to mix with the people at Somarium. Besides, it could bring up some fun plot stuff.
[Which rule was your favorite and why?] No playercest. And no one is shocked.
[Do you need a promo code?] No
[Any questions?] Should I put up a permissions post for her glamour abilities? Specifically how she can persuade minds towards her desires?
